Oh, I love book lists! I look forward to pouring through yours. It's almost like sitting down for a cup of tea and trading book recommendations. Thanks for your blog, Katherine-- I look forward to your musings. I love your combination of wisdom and humor. Annie
ReplyDeleteKatherine, what a treat!! Julia has forever talked about your book list and now I finally can print it off and look through your recommendations...:o) Thanks so much! We have loved journeying through books with Sonlight... but it's always great to hear of other books out there. Beijos, Fernie
ReplyDeleteWonderful list. May I add a favorite.. it is a chapter book about the apprentice to a Japanese Potter.. A Single Shard. It is an award winning book. Dont remember the author. I was a book my girls read for Battle of the Books. It's a 4 th or 5th grade level..
ReplyDeleteMy daughter read that book and loved it. So many books need to go on the list, and I just have not added yet. Is this Lisa Smith from PACA days??
DeleteKatherine,
ReplyDeleteThis list is pure GOLD! We couldn't find many (any?) books at our on-base library, but today we ventured to the large local library, signed our eldest up for her first library card and arrived home with an arm-ful of recommended titles. What joy is ours! I've also spent the better part of naptime placing holds on several of your favorites (A Tree for Peter!) around the state of South Carolina. I eagerly anticipate their arrival. What a blessing it is to have an online catalog.
Hi Katherine. Any suggestions for audio books or radio series to listen to for younger kids? We borrowed "Adventures in Odyssey" from the library for our 5 year old. I hadn't listened to it as a child and didn't know that some of the themes are a bit mature for her age (divorce, gangs, etc). I also missed that it was recommended for an 8-12 age range. Oops!
ReplyDeleteDuring toes-up time (daily rest time) she likes to listen to books w/ CDs and books on tape. Any other suggestions for quiet and alone-time literary activities for young readers?
Thank you!
